Paper-Airplanes is a nonprofit organization created to help individuals impacted by crisis. Through paper-airplanes, I was given the opportunity of tutoring refugees, from Syria, on the English language to help them pursue asylum in America by becoming International students. Not only did I teach them English, but I also focused on including real-world problems and diversity in my lesson plans.

DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER

My experience at the Disability Resource Center is a special one in my heart. Initially, as a learning assistant, I had a student who was blind and needed help with the computer software program, SPSS. Upon needing my expertise, I agreed to volunteer at the DRC. After seeing how intelligent this individual was despite her disability, I realized there were people out there who needed my assistance.

Internship: Learning Assistant

After passing both Reseach Methods and Data Analysis I and II with an "A," I was given the opportunity to gain experience as an educator in an unpaid internship. I volunteered for a total of 150 hours from August- December 2018 and worked with 60+ students. I worked under Dr. Maria Reid with a team in which we discussed lessons, future plans, changes in the curriculum, and different communication skills that would improve the learning environment.
